Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a dynamic Lead Practitioner of Geography for a progressive secondary academy in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will lead geographical inquiry, fieldwork excellence, and GIS software integration, starting in January.

The role covers strategic teaching quality across KS3-5, coaching colleagues, and ensuring GCSE and A-Level fieldwork and non-exam assessments meet exam board criteria. This is a full-time, permanent appointment.

Qualifications

• QTS with an honours degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Proven track record of strong GCSE and A-Level Geography outcomes with peer coaching experience.
• Experience organizing safe fieldwork excursions and managing exam moderation.
• Outstanding communication skills and a passion for environmental/global inquiry.
• Active DBS Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Teach Geography across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
• Lead coaching in spatial data analysis, GIS integration, and evaluative writing.
• Audit and refine schemes of work to build climate awareness and physical/human process evaluation.
• Oversee compulsory GCSE and A-Level fieldwork excursions, risk assessments, and data analysis.
• Analyze assessment data to identify attainment gaps and implement targeted revision.
• Mentor early-career geography teachers through peer observations and curriculum reviews.
