Job summary

Thomas Bennett Community College in Crawley is seeking a Lead Practitioner for Geography & Humanities who can energise the department, shape curriculum vision, and drive high-quality teaching across Key Stages 3 to 5.

Qualifications

• Holds QTS and a degree in a relevant subject area.
• Provides strategic leadership for Humanities across the school, shaping curriculum design and sequencing.
• Models exemplary teaching with robust subject knowledge and uses assessment data to secure progress.
• Coaches, mentors, and line-manages staff, delivering professional development and lesson observation.
• Adapts teaching and curriculum strategies to meet diverse needs including SEND and disadvantaged pupils.
• Oversees exam board specifications and assessment systems to ensure accurate moderation and thorough exam preparation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Geography & Humanities curriculum across KS3–KS5.
• Coach and mentor department staff; deliver high-quality professional development.
• Monitor assessment data to drive improvements in pupil progress.
• Manage teaching standards and conduct lesson observations.
• Foster collaborative relationships with pupils, parents, and feeder schools.
