Job summary

Harmony Fire is creating an in-house emergency lighting authority through Auro Lume. We are seeking an Emergency Lighting Specialist to own design, surveying, and commissioning across commercial and public sector sites in London.

You will work in pre-construction, produce lux calculations and layouts, write specifications, and certify installations to BS 5266, acting as the technical authority and supporting sales with expert guidance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in emergency lighting design, survey, and commissioning across commercial, residential, or public sector buildings.
• Strong working knowledge of BS 5266 and the wider UK regulatory framework for emergency lighting.
• Proficient in lighting design software to produce accurate lux calculations and compliant layout drawings.
• Comfortable in a client-facing, pre-construction role and able to present designs to consultants and building owners.
• Organised and detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple surveys, designs and installations.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 and producing professional reports and documentation.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Relevant electrical or lighting qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2391, ILP, or equivalent) (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Carry out detailed surveys of client sites to assess existing emergency lighting and define scope for new or replacement schemes.
• Design compliant emergency lighting systems with lux calculations, layouts, and specifications meeting BS 5266 and related standards.
• Produce clear design packages and reports for clients, consultants, and specifiers at the early design stages.
• Commission emergency lighting installations to a world‑class standard, with full certification and compliance evidence.
• Act as Harmony’s in‑house technical authority on emergency lighting, supporting sales and pre-construction teams.
• Build relationships with clients, consultants and specifiers to position Harmony and Auro Lume as the first‑choice partner.
• Support pre-construction and estimating teams with scope definition, design input and sign-off on emergency lighting elements.
• Keep abreast of changes to standards and technologies to improve quality and efficiency of offerings.
• Maintain accurate records of surveys, designs, commissions, and certification documentation.
