Job summary

Robert Hurst Limited is seeking an experienced Electrician / Fire Alarm Engineer to install, inspect, test and maintain emergency lighting and fire alarm systems across commercial, industrial and residential environments. The ideal candidate will hold a Level 3 qualification in Emergency Lighting (BS 5266-1), knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant standards, and will work safely, producing clear certificates and reports.

Experience with reporting software and client liaison is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Experience in installation, inspection, testing and maintenance of emergency lighting.
• Knowledge of electrical safety and lifecycle documentation.
• Familiarity with BS 5266-1 and BS 7671 standards.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, test and maintain emergency lighting systems in line with BS 5266-1 and current standards.
• Carry out monthly functional tests and annual full-duration tests as required.
• Complete inspections, identify faults and perform remedial works.
• Install and commission emergency lighting fittings, exit signs and central battery systems.
• Carry out electrical installation, inspection and testing to current regulations.
• Install, test, commission and maintain fire alarm systems.
• Diagnose faults and repair fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.
• Produce clear service reports, test certificates and records of remedial works.
• Work safely and professionally with high workmanship standards.
• Liaise with customers, site managers and other contractors.
• Ensure all work complies with legislation, British Standards and manufacturer instructions.
• Work independently and manage allocated jobs effectively.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Electrician / Fire Alarm Engineer with proven practical experience in the installation, inspection, testing and maintenance of emergency lighting systems.

The successful candidate will have a recognised Level 3 qualification/certification in Emergency Lighting to BS 5266-1 and be confident working across a range of commercial, industrial and residential environments.

The role will involve carrying out electrical and life-safety installations to a high standard, ensuring systems are compliant with relevant British Standards, regulations and manufacturer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, test and maintain emergency lighting systems in accordance with BS 5266-1 and relevant current standards.
• Carry out emergency lighting monthly functional tests and annual full-duration tests where required.
• Complete emergency lighting inspections, identify faults and undertake remedial works.
• Install and commission emergency lighting fittings, exit signs, central battery systems and associated equipment.
• Carry out electrical installation, inspection and testing in accordance with current regulations.
• Install, test, commission and maintain fire alarm systems.
• Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.
• Complete testing and commissioning documentation accurately.
• Produce clear service reports, test certificates and records of remedial works.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• FIA or equivalent fire alarm qualifications. BS 5266-1 - Emergency lighting
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
• Inspection & Testing qualification (e.g. C&G 2391 or equivalent).
• Experience with addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
• Experience with emergency lighting testing software or digital reporting systems.
• ECS/JIB registration.
• Experience working within commercial or industrial premises.
• Asbestos awareness.
