Job description

Hopetown is a new narrative-first RPG inspired by Disco Elysium, being built by some of the team that worked on Disco Elysium, including Martin Luiga (founder of the ZA/UM Cultural Movement, writer of several characters on Disco Elysium, writer of the first short story in the Disco Elysium world), Lenval Brown (narrator of Disco Elysium) and Piotr Sobolewski (former CEO of Knights of Unity, which completed all the tech for Disco Elysium).

We are currently moving into early production, building out the foundational systems, characters, and mechanics that will define the experience. With your help, we can transform Hopetown from a great cRPG into an unforgettable one — a living, breathing universe of stories, surprises, and challenges.

ABOUT US

Longdue is a studio founded to create rich, emotional, story-first games that challenge players’ expectations. We’re a remote team of writers, artists, designers, and engineers, bringing together talent from across the industry to push the boundaries of narrative-driven RPGs.

We are still early in production — meaning new team members will have a real, tangible impact on the world we are building. We believe that extraordinary games can come from small, focused teams — teams that value creativity, openness, and care over convention.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Lead Editor to join our studio as we move into production on Hopetown.

You will be responsible for editing and refining all narrative text, developing our editorial standards, and leading our team of writers with mentorship, energy, and vision. You’ll champion the voice of the game, maintain a high level of narrative quality, and ensure that the player experience is always at the forefront.

As the primary editorial leader, you’ll work closely with the CEO, Art, Production, and Tech teams to integrate narrative seamlessly into the development process, while building a creative and collaborative culture within the writing team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Edit and polish all in-game text, including dialogue, lore, quest content, item descriptions, and UI copy.
  • Maintain and evolve the game’s voice, tone, and editorial standards through clear documentation and style guides.
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and support to writers, helping them develop their craft and confidence.
  • Build morale, foster a positive creative environment, and act as a motivating presence for the narrative team.
  • Represent the writing team in cross-functional discussions with leadership and other departments.
  • Support the scaling of narrative pipelines as we transition from early development into full production.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen storytelling, world-building, and emotional player engagement.

Requirements

Minimum:
  • Significant experience in writing narratives for at least one major creative project - book, film, or game - that has been recognised widely
  • 3+ years of professional experience editing narrative content for games, novels, film, or television.
  • 2+ years of experience mentoring or leading creative or editorial teams (formal management experience not required, but leadership experience is essential).
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to provide clear, constructive, and motivating feedback.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with teams such as Art, Production, and Tech.
  • Highly organised and proactive in managing editorial workflows, deadlines, and narrative pipelines.
  • A deep understanding of how writing and player experience intersect, especially in narrative-driven games.
Preferred:
  • Experience writing for, or editing, at least 100k words of content for a book, film, or video game
  • At least 1 year of experience writing branching narrative dialogues for cRPGs
  • At least 1 year of experience in editing branching narrative dialogues for cRPGs
  • At least 1 year of experience leading a team of at least 3 full-time equivalent writing staff
  • Previous experience scaling or building narrative teams during production.
  • Familiarity with localisation workflows and best practices.
  • Passion for psychological, surreal, or experimental storytelling.
BENEFITS

Equity & Ownership

As an early team member at Longdue, you may be eligible for equity through our future stock option scheme.

Remote & Flexible Work

We’re a fully remote studio, with flexible hours and a culture that values autonomy and trust. Whether you’re working part-time or full-time on the prototype, we’ll make sure the schedule fits your life.

OUR VALUES

We’re a story-first studio driven by curiosity, creativity, and care. We believe in the power of games to move people — and in the potential of small teams to do extraordinary work. We challenge each other to push boundaries, stay open to new ideas, and always aim for meaning over convention.

We value collaboration, learning, and thoughtful critique. Everyone on the team has a voice, and we’re building a culture where trust, vulnerability, and experimentation are not just welcome — they’re essential.

We’re not here to follow trends. We’re here to make something lasting.
