Job summary

Jacobs UK is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological input on major infrastructure projects across the UK. You will shape Environmental Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain strategies and ecological delivery across multiple sites.

You will mentor colleagues, drive high-quality data collection, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecology into design and delivery, with flexible and hybrid working options available.

Qualifications

• Strong background in terrestrial ecology with significant industry experience.
• Chartered membership (or eligibility) of a relevant professional body.
• Proven track record leading ecological input on large-scale projects.

Responsibilities

• Deliver major infrastructure projects across water, transport, and energy sectors.
• Apply expertise in Environmental Impact Assessment, Habitats Regulations Assessment, and Biodiversity Net Gain.
• Collaborate across disciplines to integrate ecological requirements into design and delivery.
• Lead ecological monitoring programmes and manage surveys.
• Provide expert advice and act as main client contact on large projects.
• Build cross-functional networks across geographies and cultures.
• Mentor and share knowledge through global communities of practice.
