Job summary

Jacobs UK Ecology Team is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological input on major infrastructure projects and mentor colleagues across the UK. You will deliver Environmental Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments and Biodiversity Net Gain, building cross-disciplinary solutions while supporting career development and client objectives.

Qualifications

• Strong background in terrestrial ecology with significant industry experience.
• Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
• Proven track record leading ecological input on large-scale projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with sharp attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Deliver ecological input on major infrastructure projects across water, transport, and energy sectors.
• Apply Environmental Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain.
• Collaborate across disciplines to integrate ecological requirements into design and delivery.
• Lead ecological monitoring programmes and ensure high-quality data collection.
• Provide expert advice, acting as the main client contact for large-scale projects.
• Build cross-functional networks across geographies and cultures to develop solutions.
• Mentor and share knowledge through global communities of practice, conferences and training events.
• Support career progression paths including line management and technical routes.
