Due to our expansion into the Nuclear sector, WSP is recruiting a Lead Consultant - Nuclear Safety Engineer with a Nuclear Industry background.

About

The successful candidate will be part of our Systems Engineering, Integration and Assurance team, working closely with our Nuclear Business. Learn more about our Nuclear work here: Nuclear: www.wsp.com/en-gb/sectors/nuclear-energy

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver system safety solutions for Nuclear clients, including safety planning, engineering, and risk assessments across project phases.
  • Apply pragmatic systems thinking, ensuring high quality standards, and support licensing processes with Nuclear Safety Cases.
  • Communicate with system developers, engineers, operators, regulators, and certification bodies.
  • Develop business opportunities within the Nuclear sector, understanding resource, capability, and cost constraints.
  • Deep knowledge of Nuclear regulations (e.g., NIA), licensing, and organizations like ONR, IAEA, EA.
  • Collaborate within teams to solve complex safety and systems integration issues on major infrastructure projects.
  • Mentor early career professionals and contribute to team development.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered status with a professional body.
  • Extensive experience in systems safety and integration in Nuclear.
  • Expertise in nuclear safety legislation and licensing.
  • Business development experience in Nuclear.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering artifacts (requirements, safety cases, risk assessments).
  • Client-facing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to achieve security clearance (BPSS or higher).
