Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer - Nuclear Sector

We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, ideally with prior experience in the UK nuclear industry.

This position requires successful completion of all necessary security clearances, including (but not limited to) BPSS and P4 pass.

Role Overview

As Lead Commissioning Engineer, you will take ownership of commissioning activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely delivery. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Making safety the top priority, driving a Zero Harm culture, and setting an example in nuclear, radiological, conventional, and environmental safety.
  • Leading and coordinating a team of Commissioning Engineers and Technicians.
  • Managing and overseeing testing activities across all phases of commissioning.
  • Supervising the preparation and review of commissioning test documentation.
  • Organising resources and directing commissioning technicians effectively.
  • Overseeing the initiation and implementation of FOBs and TQs.
  • Working with regulatory and compliance representatives to ensure commissioning activities are witnessed and approved.
  • Controlling the use and records of Temporary Commissioning Aids.
  • Ensuring accurate data recording in line with test requirements.
  • Using completions management systems to control commissioning activities and manage handovers between construction, commissioning, and client delivery.
  • Planning, scheduling, and monitoring work against the project programme.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary design reviews and working closely with engineering teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement across commissioning processes.
  • Proactively ensuring progress is maintained to meet project deadlines.
Candidate Profile

We are seeking someone with:

  • A time-served background or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline.
  • An HNC (or equivalent qualification) preferred, or a clear path towards achieving it.
  • Proven project commissioning experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with process commissioning, vessels, and pumps.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Go Completions software.
