Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a seasoned Building Surveyor to join the Property Services team in Hereford. You will manage a diverse property portfolio, ensuring compliance, safety and asset performance, while delivering capital projects.

The role requires Chartered or equivalent experience, strong contract administration capability, and the ability to work in a hybrid model with on-site days in Hereford.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Building Surveying or Property Services.
• Strong understanding of Building Regulations, Planning Policy, Conservation, Property Compliance and Health & Safety Legislation.
• Proven experience as a Contract Administrator.
• Experience as a Principal Designer (CDM).
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively.
• Exceptional report writing and communication skills.
• Experience with Grade I and II Listed Buildings, Scheduled Ancient Monuments, Commercial and Industrial Properties.
• Nominated Person for Asbestos Management and Fire Management.
• Previous Local Authority or Public Sector experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert Building Surveying services across the Council's property holdings.
• Facilitate building compliance, safety, maintenance and asset management tasks.
• Oversee and execute capital improvement and refurbishment initiatives.
• Serve as Contract Administrator for various construction and maintenance projects.
• Conduct building inspections, condition surveys and defect analysis.
• Develop specifications, work schedules, reports and tender documents.
• Evaluate contractor performance and ensure project delivery.
• Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations and industry standards.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external consultants.
• Support conservation and heritage projects involving historic buildings.

Working Pattern: Hybrid Working – 2 to 3 Days On Site in Hereford Per Week

Summary

Herefordshire Council is in search of a seasoned Building Surveyor to enhance its Property Services team.
