Job summary

National Gas is seeking a Land Officer to deliver and manage the required land rights across our methane network. You will join a diverse lands team providing expertise on land rights, acquisitions, compensation claims and survey access.

The role supports safe operation and maintenance of our high‑pressure infrastructure, coordinating with project managers, engineers and external land agents. A MRICS qualification or progress toward it is highly desirable, with strong communication and budget

Qualifications

• MRICS/AssocRICS accreditation or working towards.
• Understanding of Planning Act 2008 and related land acts.
• Experience drafting licence agreements for land access.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary teams and contract management.

About the role

As a Land Officer, you will use your knowledge and experience to deliver and manage the required land rights across our methane network.

You will be part of a diverse lands team providing knowledge on land rights, acquisitions, compensation claims and survey access. #LI-CW1

Why this role matters

This role is critical to ensuring the company has the legal rights and access required to safely operate, maintain and protect its high-pressure gas infrastructure across the network. It also plays a key role in managing landowner relationships, securing land rights, resolving compensation matters and coordinating stakeholders and suppliers to support the successful delivery of operational and strategic projects.

What you'll be doing

• Supporting the team in the delivery of our Land Rights Strategy across our network
• Acquiring the easements and licences that we use to secure our rights on third party land
• Support our operational teams by gaining access to land for the essential maintenance of high-pressure gas infrastructure, including managing our external land agents where necessary
• Manage and assess in-coming compensation claims following surveys, construction, and maintenance activities
• Support our operational teams with protecting our assets from potentially dangerous activities by third parties, including supporting enforcement action when required
• Liaison with internal and external stakeholders, such as our project managers, engineers and grantors, over all matters relevant to our land rights
• Co-ordination of our suppliers' activities, that we use to deliver the team's work

What you'll bring

• Desirable to be MRICS/AssocRICS or working towards
• Knowledge or awareness of the Planning Act 2008, Compulsory Purchase Act 1965, Gas Act 1986 and Pipelines Act 1962
• Awareness and understanding of agricultural land practices
• Knowledge of our land rights and legal responsibilities
• Experience in drafting and issuing a range of licence agreements to facilitate access to land
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams, including internal and contract personnel
• Experience in project and contract management would be favourable
• Demonstrable experience in managing project budgets, maintaining accurate data records within Excel, and proactively communicating project updates to ensure the project management team has timely and reliable information
• Valid driving licence
