Job summary

GAP Group Limited in Peterlee is seeking a proactive Labourer to support our Plant & Tool Division. You will keep the depot workshop and yard clean, prepare plant for hire, and help the team deliver excellent service to customers across construction and infrastructure sectors.

This hands-on role offers real career progression within a growing business that invests in people. A CSCS card and driving licence are advantageous; forklift experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience as a labourer in a hire depot/yard is beneficial.
• Strong teamwork and willingness to support colleagues.
• High attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Keep workshop and yard clean, tidy and hazard-free.
• Clean plant equipment and store it in an orderly fashion.
• Refuel plant and machinery and update fuel logs.
• Quality-check equipment before it leaves the depot to ensure it's hire-ready.
• Assist with general workshop duties as required.
• Carrying out driving duties (subject to licence) and assist with loading/unloading vehicles.
• Operate forklift when necessary.

You'll maintain a clean and hazard-free workshop and yard, prepare plant equipment for hire, and support the wider team to deliver exceptional service to our customers across construction, utilities, and infrastructure sectors.

About the role

What You'll Be Doing

• Keeping the workshop and yard clean, tidy, and hazard-free
• Cleaning plant equipment and store it in an orderly fashion
• Refuelling plant and machinery, accurately updating fuel logs
• Quality-checking equipment before it leaves the depot to ensure it's hire-ready
• Assisting with general workshop duties as required
• Carrying out driving duties (subject to licence) and assisting Drivers and customers with loading and unloading vehicles
• Operating forklift when necessary

About You

• Previous experience in a labourer role, ideally within a hire depot or yard environment
• Strong team player with a willingness to support colleagues
• Ability to work independently and use initiative in a busy environment
• High attention to detail and commitment to safety standards
• CSCS card, forklift licence, and driving licence are advantageous
