The Laboratory Technician should provide a high standard of technical support to academic and research staff in the Quadram Institute. The post holder will maintain working areas following protocols and good laboratory practice, supporting the ‘Food Structure and Bioaccessibility Facility’. Responsibilities include analyzing food samples, metabolic and biophysical analysis, particle size distribution, and texture analysis. They will support in vitro digestion and fermentation experiments, maintain and calibrate equipment, and liaise with the Lab Manager regarding maintenance and service. The role requires understanding and conforming to Health and Safety requirements, writing standard operating procedures, and training staff in equipment use.
Key Relationships
The appointed Laboratory Technician will report to Lab Manager, Andrea Hinkova, and collaborate with a team of laboratory technicians and scientific researchers, including PhD students, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Group Leaders. They will also engage with external service providers, such as engineers for maintenance and troubleshooting of scientific instruments.
Main Activities & Responsibilities
Education & Qualifications: BSc/MSc in Biochemistry, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field
Specialist Knowledge & Skills: Problem-solving, troubleshooting, MS Office proficiency, biochemical/structural analysis knowledge
Relevant Experience: Laboratory work, quality control, scientific instrument operation and maintenance
Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Organization, teamwork, written and verbal communication
