Job summary

White Recruitment Limited is seeking a Laboratory Chemist – Hazardous Waste in Grays to analyse and classify waste streams and provide technical guidance to operational teams.

You will support laboratory quality, safety and compliance, maintain equipment, and communicate findings to stakeholders while contributing to continuous improvement and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Analytical Science, Environmental Science or related field.
• Strong laboratory experience in chemistry, environmental testing or waste management.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques and wet chemistry methods.
• Understanding of waste classification and health & safety requirements is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical and physical analysis of waste streams to support decisions.
• Provide technical guidance on analytical methods and waste acceptance.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Communicate analytical findings to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Support laboratory operations through equipment maintenance and quality control.

Laboratory Chemist – Hazardous Waste

Location: Grays, UK

Salary: circa. £36,000pa (DOE)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 8:30am – 5:30pm

My client is seeking a Laboratory Chemist to join their team in Grays, analysing and classifying hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, providing technical expertise to operational teams, and supporting laboratory quality, safety, and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform chemical and physical analysis of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, interpreting results to support waste management decisions.
• Provide technical guidance on analytical methods, waste acceptance, chemical compatibility, and complex waste streams.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards through risk assessment and continuous improvement activities.
• Communicate analytical findings and recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Support laboratory operations through equipment maintenance and quality control.

Requirements:

• Degree, HND/HNC, or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Analytical Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Strong laboratory experience in chemistry, environmental testing, waste management, or a similar industry.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques, laboratory instrumentation, and wet chemistry methods.
• Understanding of waste classification, environmental legislation, and health & safety requirements is desirable.
• Ability to interpret analytical data, communicate technical findings, and support safe, efficient laboratory operations.
