Job description

Lab Technician

Darlaston, West Midlands

Overview:

We are currently recruiting an experienced Lab Technician to work for our client, a dynamic and innovative business in the battery recycling industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Perform chemical analysis on environmental and production samples using wet chemical techniques or lab instrumentation.
  2. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments such as X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, pH meters, Thermal analyzers (Carbon analyzers), and Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy.
  3. Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  4. Prepare reagents and standards.
  5. Ensure organization and cleanliness of the laboratory.
  6. Analyze data and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Assist in developing and improving SOPs and SWIs for instrumentation, methods, and processes.
  8. Perform daily checks, maintenance, and housekeeping tasks.
  9. Support quality management, audits, and external assessments.
  10. Implement and monitor risk management processes.
  11. Collaborate with QC personnel and troubleshoot with plant staff.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Degree in Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) or Engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows.
  • Effective communication skills with managers, plant operators, and lab personnel.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and reliable.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Desire to improve understanding of plant operations and contribute to organizational strategies.
  • Hardworking, independent, and technically proficient.
  • Ability to produce clear written reports and presentations.
  • Compliance with safety procedures.
Salary & Benefits:
  • Competitive salary, to be discussed during interview.
  • Performance-based bonus scheme.
  • Defined contribution pension (minimum 6.25% employee, up to 10% employer contribution).
  • Death in service cover (3x salary, if enrolled in pension scheme).
