Job summary

University of Bath invites applications for a Science Assistant in the Faculty of Science. The post supports Life Sciences and Chemistry UG teaching laboratories, assisting the technical team with setup, turnover and cleanup of undergraduate practical classes.

Responsibilities include organising glassware, basic chemical prep, preparing media, PAT testing and maintaining lab materials and housekeeping to a high standard.

Qualifications

• Technical or portering experience is encouraged.
• Interest in science is required.
• Flexibility and good communication are essential.
• Diplomacy and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with set-up, turn-around and clear down of undergraduate practical classes.
• Organise glassware and perform basic chemical preparation; prepare biological media and materials.
• Carry out PAT testing and prepare materials for washing/sterilisation.
• Supply laboratory materials and maintain laboratory housekeeping to a high standard.
• Support communal research facilities including autoclaves, wash-up, glasshouses, waste stores and organism facilities.
