Job summary

Step Teachers is recruiting a KS4 SEND Teaching Assistant for a full-time, temporary to permanent role starting in September 2026. You will support pupils with SEND in a Key Stage 4 setting, helping them access learning, develop independence, and prepare for adulthood outcomes.

The role focuses on safeguarding, inclusion, and positive relationships within a structured team. You will work with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams, provide one-to-one or small group support, and promote

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people with SEND, ideally within Key Stage 4.
• Understanding of inclusive practice and adolescent development.
• Calm, patient, and consistent approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Willingness to begin on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEND within a Key Stage 4 classroom environment.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum.
• Assist with differentiated learning activities tailored to individual needs.
• Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
• Work closely with class teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to follow individual support plans.
• Observe and share information regarding pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times.
