Job summary

Academics Ltd is seeking a Teaching Assistant / HLTA for a welcoming two-form entry junior school in Chesham. The role focuses on supporting KS2 pupils, including vulnerable learners with additional needs, within a supportive team.

You will assist with lesson preparation, adapt activities, monitor progress, and maintain safeguarding practices. A patient, proactive approach and willingness to engage in professional development are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
• Maths and English skills equivalent to GCSE grades 4-9.
• Experience supporting teaching and learning for primary-aged pupils.
• Experience working with vulnerable children and pupils with additional needs including ADHD, ASD, or dyslexia.
• Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
• Step On behaviour management training or equivalent.
• Experience liaising with external agencies including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists.
• A curriculum specialism or experience overcoming specific barriers to learning.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and experience contributing to pupil support plans.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning across KS2 through individual, small-group, and whole-class activities.
• Support pupils with additional needs, including ADHD, ASD, and dyslexia.
• Adapt learning activities to meet pupils' individual needs and abilities.
• Promote positive behaviour, independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and monitoring pupil progress.
• Lead pre-planned lessons where appropriate to HLTA responsibilities.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, families, and external professionals.
• Follow safeguarding procedures, school policies, and relevant guidance.
