Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN KS1 Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs in a caring, inclusive primary school in Nelson. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and support staff to tailor assistance and promote learning and confidence.

The role focuses on 1:1 and small group support, differentiating activities and implementing strategies from EHCPs/IEPs to help pupils access the KS1 curriculum and develop literacy, numeracy and social skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEN in a primary school setting.
  • Knowledge of KS1 curriculum expectations and child development.
  • Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) is desirable.
  • Understanding of Autism, ADHD and other needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Assist children in accessing the KS1 curriculum through differentiated activities and targeted support.
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, including ASC, ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Implement strategies from EHCPs, IEPs and support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing through routines and encouragement.
  • Deliver interventions to support literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO, parents and external professionals.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to support ongoing assessment.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all pupils can thrive.
