Job summary

ST DAVID'S HOSPICE is seeking a Kitchen Assistant in St Davids to join the catering team in providing nutritious meals for patients, staff, volunteers and visitors. You will support cooks, handle basic food prep, and help maintain high hygiene standards in a hospital kitchen.

The role requires flexibility to cover shifts, good communication, and the ability to work well in a team as well as independently. Training and a supportive environment are offered.

Qualifications

• A relevant educational background is required.
• Flexibility to work shifts as needed to meet service demands.
• Ability to maintain high hygiene and safety standards.
• Ability to work with kitchen cleaning products and follow safe practices.
• Previous experience in a professional kitchen, catering, healthcare or hospice setting is desirable.

Description: Do you enjoy working as part of a team and take pride in preparing and serving good food? St David's Hospice is looking for a friendly and reliable Kitchen Assistant to support our Catering Team in providing nutritious, high-quality meals for patients, staff, volunteers, visitors and Café Dewi customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Cooks with the preparation and service of meals.
• Assist in ensuring dietary requirements are met and food is prepared safely.
• Help provide food for events and functions as required.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen.
• Wash dishes and kitchen equipment and ensure work areas remain clean and tidy.
• Follow food hygiene, HACCP, COSHH, health and safety, and infection control procedures at all times.
• Assist with stock control, including checking, rotating and storing food appropriately.
• Report any hazards, incidents, accidents or equipment concerns.
• Provide a friendly and professional service to patients, visitors, staff and volunteers.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has an understanding of food handling, food storage and kitchen hygiene practices.
• Has basic food preparation skills and enjoys working in a catering environment.
• Works well as part of a team and can also work independently when required.
• Has good communication skills and attention to detail.
• Takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
• Demonstrates empathy and understanding of the hospice environment.
• Is willing to undertake training relevant to the role.

To be successful in the role, you'll need:

• A relevant educational background.
• Flexibility to work shifts as required to meet service needs.
• The ability to maintain high hygiene and safety standards.
• The ability to work with kitchen cleaning products and follow safe working practices.

It would be great if you also have:

• Previous experience in a professional kitchen, catering, healthcare or hospice setting.
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Food Hygiene Level 1 and/or HACCP Level 2 certification.
• Knowledge of a range of cooking methods and food presentation techniques.
