Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a qualified Key Stage 1 Teacher for a full-time maternity cover in Derby. You will plan and deliver the KS1 curriculum, using British Sign Language to support communication and ensure pupils are fully engaged throughout lessons.

The role requires QTS (ECTs welcome), KS1 experience and strong classroom management; you will support deaf or hearing-impaired children and contribute to an inclusive classroom environment.

Job Title: Key Stage 1 Teacher

Location: Derby

Start Date: November 2026

Salary: £174 - £240 per day

The school is looking to appoint a Key Stage 1 Teacher on a full-time maternity cover basis from November 2026. The successful Key Stage 1 Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering the Key Stage 1 curriculum, using BSL to support communication and ensuring pupils are fully engaged and supported throughout their learning.

The successful Key Stage 1 Teacher will have:

• QTS, with ECTs also welcomed to apply
• Experience teaching within Key Stage 1 / KS1
• British Sign Language / BSL skills
• Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• A patient, adaptable and inclusive approach to teaching
