Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a qualified Key Stage 1 Teacher for a full-time maternity cover at a specialist school in Derby. The role requires delivering the KS1 curriculum, using British Sign Language to support communication, and creating an inclusive, engaging classroom for deaf or hearing-impaired pupils.

Salary is £174–£240 per day, working on-site from November 2026 with a supportive team and a smooth onboarding process.

• QTS required or ECTs welcomed.

• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Patient, adaptable and inclusive teaching approach.

Responsibilities

The school is looking to appoint a Key Stage 1 Teacher on a full-time maternity cover basis from November 2026. The successful Key Stage 1 Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering the Key Stage 1 curriculum, using BSL to support communication and ensuring pupils are fully engaged and supported throughout their learning.

The successful Key Stage 1 Teacher will have:

• QTS, with ECTs also welcomed to apply
• Experience teaching within Key Stage 1 / KS1
• Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• A patient, adaptable and inclusive approach to teaching
