Job summary

University Arms is seeking a Junior Sous Chef for Parker's Tavern in Cambridge. You will work with the Head Chef and Sous Chef to deliver outstanding food in the restaurant and during events, ensuring high standards and consistency.

Role requires prior kitchen experience, strong organisational skills, and the ability to lead others during service. A positive attitude and flexibility for varied shifts are essential. Includes staff meals and hotel benefits.

• Experience in both restaurant service and events/catering (preferred).

University Arms is a 192-bedroom design-led Hotel situated in the heart of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Overlooking Parker’s Piece is the Hotel’s quintessentially British Restaurant and Bar, Parker’s Tavern, Library Lounge, and beautiful 272 square metre wood-panelled Ballroom.

Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. What Will You Be Doing

As a Junior Sous Chef, you’ll work closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef to deliver exceptional food in the restaurant/bar and a variety of events, from private dining to large-scale functions.

THE DUTIES

• Support the day-to-day running of the kitchen across the restaurant and events


• Prepare and present high-quality dishes to exceptional standards.


• Maintain excellent food quality, consistency and presentation.


• Lead and motivate junior team members during service


• Assist in menu development, particularly event offerings


• Maintain excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards


• Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering and minimise food waste.


• Step up to lead service in the absence of the senior chefs

What Are We Looking For In You

• Previous experience as a Senior Chef De Partie or Junior Sous Chef in a busy kitchen


• Experience in both restaurant service and events/catering (preferred)


• Strong organisational and time management skills


• A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop


• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards


• Good understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance


• Flexible to work varied shifts, including weekends and evenings

PAY

Base Salary per annum - £31,326.88 plus £6188.00 per annum in Tronc.
