Job description

As a Junior Merchandiser, you will develop, execute, and drive assortment strategies for your product class. Your ranges will become our “Wayfair Verified” items, representing our highest revenue products. You will influence how curated product ranges are presented across all marketing channels (print, digital, and social), ensuring accurate product representation and optimal shelf placement. You will support cross-functional relationships to achieve strategic goals, acting as the customer’s advocate in product placement decisions. Collaboration with Brand Management, Category Management, Marketing, Analytics & Operations, and external Suppliers will be essential to execute the strategic vision to the customer. Using data-driven insights, you will impact sales, share gains, and help customers create their ideal home.

What you'll do as a Curated Merchant...

You will execute our curation strategy, understand the competitive market, and build a compelling assortment of “Wayfair Verified” items. This includes developing shelf space plans, managing product offerings, and selecting products with strong business justifications. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and external suppliers will shape your class’s direction, ensuring competitiveness in product and price. You will stay attuned to customer needs and market trends to identify new assortment opportunities, continually refreshing your product line. You will own the financial performance of your assortment, monitoring KPIs and OKRs to optimize results.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain class assortment strategies, including shelf space planning and product selection.
  • Identify growth opportunities through competitive analysis, trend research, and performance monitoring.
  • Partner with internal teams and suppliers to bring the selection to life across digital and print channels.
  • Monitor trends and customer needs to find new assortment opportunities, collaborating with partners to find compelling products.
  • Own the financial outcomes of your product assortment, regularly assessing performance and adjusting strategies accordingly.
  • Travel domestically (4x/month) to our QC & Video Studio to ensure product quality.
  • Travel internationally (1-2x/year) to industry trade shows for supplier partnership and catalog optimization.

Who You Are

  • Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Experience in buying or merchandising trend-driven categories, curating assortments, and presenting compelling product lines is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data and apply insights.
  • Aesthetic sense, passion for product, and interest in industry trends and home decor.
  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills to influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, and operate in a start-up mindset.
  • Self-motivated with a strategic vision to make a significant impact.
  • Ability to work in our London office 3 days/week, with additional travel to Birmingham and for trade shows.
