Job summary

Armagard, based in the UK, is seeking a Junior Design Engineer to design sheet metal components and assemblies using SolidWorks, progressing concepts through to manufacture and aftercare. You will develop parts, drawings and BOMs while supporting prototypes and first production runs in a hybrid work setting.

The role emphasizes hands-on CAD design, collaboration with Production and Sales, and continual learning in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• A relevant engineering degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification, or practical mechanical design experience.
• Experience using 3D CAD through employment, education, placements or personal projects.
• The ability to create parts, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• A practical approach, good communication and IT skills, and the ability to organise your workload.
• An interest in manufacturing and a willingness to learn and work collaboratively.
• Experience with SolidWorks, sheet metal fabrication, manufacturing processes or MRP/ERP systems would be an advantage. A full UK driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Produce manufacturing drawings, drawing packs and technical documentation.
• Develop new products and customise existing designs to meet customer requirements.
• Support prototype builds, testing and first production runs, helping resolve manufacturing and assembly issues.
• Maintain product codes and Bills of Materials using CIM50 MRP.
• Work with Production, Sales and suppliers on technical queries, quotations and product improvements.
• Occasionally attend customer sites.

Job Title: Junior Design Engineer

Location: Birmingham / West Midlands

Salary: £27,000 to £36,000 per annum, based on experience

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Working pattern: Office-based initially, with 1-2 days' home working available once established

Armagard is a UK manufacturer specialising in protective enclosures and engineered solutions for digital displays, computers and electronic equipment used in commercial and industrial environments. We design and develop our products in-house, working closely with our manufacturing partners and customers to take products from initial concept through to manufacture and final assembly.

About the role:

We're looking for a recent engineering graduate or junior design engineer to join our team. You'll gain hands‑on experience throughout the product lifecycle, taking designs from initial concepts through to manufacture, assembly and ongoing support.

What we offer:

• £27,000 - £36,000 salary, depending on qualifications and experience.
• Training and support to develop your CAD, sheet metal and manufacturing knowledge.

• Hybrid working of typically 1-2 days per week once established.
• You’ll initially work in the office five days per week to build your understanding of our products, processes and team.
