Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Systems Engineer I to join the TIO team in a role that emphasizes reliability, scalability, and performance of production systems on AWS. You will partner with software engineers and platform teams to automate deployments, improve observability, and support CI/CD processes, while advancing your cloud and SRE skills in a global setting.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years in Systems/DevOps, hands-on AWS experience, and familiarity with IaC tools, containers, monitoring suites,

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch).
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Working knowledge of containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Scripting or programming experience (Python, Go, Bash).
• Understanding of monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Exposure to SLO/SLI/error budget frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, maintain, and improve reliability, availability, and performance of production systems on AWS.
• Respond to incidents and drive root cause analysis and postmortems.
• Build and maintain automation for deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management (IaC).
• Collaborate with development teams to improve observability (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting).
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization.
• Write and maintain runbooks, documentation, and operational procedures.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and improve deployment safety and velocity.
