Job summary

Lanes Group plc in Chester is seeking a Drainage Assistant to join our Chester Depot. Working in two-person teams, you will attend drainage issues such as blockages, pipe cleansing and reactive call outs, with training provided.

This role offers 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with up to £13 per hour and weekly pay, plus benefits including 21 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, a pension, and death in service.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence with ≤6 penalty points.
• Interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Operate machinery.
• Ensure all H&S requirements are followed.
• Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address concerns.
• Identify drainage issues, including blockages, defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
• Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clear drains, sewers, and pipework.
• Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
• Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance.
• Support CCTV inspections to assess underground pipes and sewers.
• Assist in emergency response for flooding and urgent drainage issues.
• Learn to complete RAMS under supervision.

About the Role

Due to company growth, we are looking to appoint a Drainage Assistant to join our Chester Depot. Working as part of a two person teams, you will be responsible for attending drainage related issues such as blockages, pipe clearing, cleansing and reactive call outs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying drainage issues, including blockages, structural defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
• Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean and clear drains, sewers, and pipework.
• Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
• Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure readiness.
• Support CCTV inspections to assess the condition of underground pipes and sewers.
• Assist in emergency response situations, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
• Learn to complete job sheets, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) under supervision.

Requirements

• Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points)
• A strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering
• A practical, hands‑on approach and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions

Lanes Group will provide all training required for the role such as high-pressure water jetting, confined space, spill response, etc.
