Job summary

Gazelle Global in Edinburgh is seeking a Principal Engineer with strong Java development expertise to join a technical delivery team. The role is hybrid, with 2 days per week in the office, on a 6-month contract, and offers an excellent day rate.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Principal/lead Engineer in a delivery-focused team.
• Strong Java development and Spring Boot background, with enterprise-grade applications.
• Experience building and delivering React-based SPAs.
• Hands-on with cloud hosting and modern CI/CD practices.

• Contribute across the full development lifecycle from design to testing and production support.
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, product owners and engineers to deliver robust applications.
• Promote engineering standards and mentor junior teammates.

We're looking for a Principal Engineer with strong Java development expertise to join a technical delivery team in Edinburgh. This is an opportunity to contribute to enterprise-level software engineering, shaping solutions that are secure, reliable, scalable and maintainable.

You’ll be involved throughout the development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through to testing, deployment and production support. Working alongside architects, analysts, product owners and fellow engineers, you’ll help deliver robust applications while promoting high engineering standards and supporting the development of junior team members.

Key Skills:

• Java and Spring Boot microservices development
• React Single Page Applications
• API gateway technologies, including Tyk, Apigee or DataPower
• Cloud and application hosting using PCF, TAS or AWS
• Integration and batch processing using StreamSets, Airflow, ESP Services or GSS
• CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
• Technical design, code reviews and production troubleshooting
