Job summary

Queen Square Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Java Microservices Developer for a major financial services technology programme in Edinburgh. You will design, develop, test and support scalable enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, React, PostgreSQL and AWS.

This hands-on role demands 10+ years of software engineering experience, strong Java/Spring Boot microservices, API design, and delivery of secure, reliable systems with CI/CD and automated testing.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot microservices development.
• Experience designing APIs and backend services.
• Experience with React and SPAs.
• Strong PostgreSQL and relational DB skills.
• Experience with API gateway technologies (TYK, Apigee, IBM DataPower).
• Experience with cloud hosting platforms (AWS, PCF, TAS).
• Familiarity with batch processing and enterprise integration tools (StreamSets, Airflow, ESP, GSS).
• CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment and release experience.
• Production support, troubleshooting and incident resolution.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and enhance enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot and microservices.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services.
• Contribute to React-based SPAs and frontend-backend integration.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL database interactions.
• Work with API gateways (TYK, Apigee, IBM DataPower).
• Support deployment across AWS, PCF and TAS.
• Develop and support batch processing/integration solutions (StreamSets, Airflow, ESP, GSS).
• Participate in end-to-end solution design and code reviews.
• Write clean, secure, testable code and follow engineering standards.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and release activities.
