Job summary

Gazelle Global Consulting Limited is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead Java microservices development in Edinburgh. You will work within a technical delivery team, shaping secure, scalable and maintainable enterprise applications throughout design, implementation, testing and production support.

The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days per week in the office, on a 6-month contract with an excellent day rate.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Java/J2EE development in enterprise settings.
• Strong background in microservices architecture and Spring Boot.
• Experience with full software development lifecycle in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Principal Engineer - Java Microservices

Location: Edinburgh
Contract: 6 months
Working pattern: Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office

We're looking for a Principal Engineer with strong Java development expertise to join a technical delivery team in Edinburgh. This is an opportunity to contribute to enterprise-level software engineering, shaping solutions that are secure, reliable, scalable and maintainable.

You'll be involved throughout the development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through to testing, deployment and production support. Working alongside architects, analysts, product owners and fellow engineers, you'll help deliver robust applications while promoting high engineering standards and supporting the development of junior team members.

Key Skills

• Java and Spring Boot microservices development
• React Single Page Applications
• PostgreSQL database development
• API gateway technologies, including Tyk, Apigee or DataPower
• Cloud and application hosting using PCF, TAS or AWS
• Integration and batch processing using StreamSets, Airflow, ESP Services or GSS
• CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
• Technical design, code reviews and production troubleshooting

You'll have the opportunity to influence technical delivery, improve application quality and contribute to engineering best practices within a collaborative environment.
