Job summary

GCS Recruitment is seeking a Java-focused developer to re-platform and modernise an internal application, migrating from PCF to BYOC and adapting it for modern dependencies.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and iterate backend services and some frontend work with Angular, while driving quality through TDD/BDD and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Strong Java development experience (Java 11+).
• Experience designing and building microservices in a modern Java stack.
• Experience with Graph databases (Neo4j desirable).
• Experience modernising legacy Java applications.
• Experience with REST API design and backend services.
• Experience building HTML/JS front-ends (Angular desirable).
• Experience with Agile, Jira/Confluence; proactive and collaborative.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with developers, testers and the wider organisation to build and run products.

The Developer Experience (DevX) Standards and Controls function is building a platform for control owners and development teams to manage/view their compliance with a range of software development controls.

The candidate would be working on re-platforming an application from a vendor platform (PCF) over to an internal bring your own code (BYOC) platform as well as modernising the application and resolving dependency issues.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with developers, testers and the wider organisation to build and run products
• Design, develop & implement back-end features as per backlog/priority with a small element of front-end development.
• Collaborate with the rest of the engineering team to design and launch new features.
• Proactively work with customers to resolve their issues and respond to feature requests.
• Build APIs and microservices
• Work in an agile CI/CD environment to deliver rapid iterations at a sustained velocity
• Be an active member of a team, participating in peer reviews and in testing others code through automated test scripting

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE REQUIRE

• Strong Java development experience (modern Java 11+).
• Experience designing and building microservices architectural style applications.
• Experience with Graph databases (experience with Neo4j is desirable).
• Experience modernising legacy Java applications.
• Experience with the design and build of REST APIs
• Experience building HTML/JavaScript front-ends (experience with Angular is desirable).
• Strong technical and analytical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in BDD and/or TDD approaches and frameworks (unit/integration test automation)
• Experience resolving issues with dependencies (e.g. conflicts), performing upgrades and remediating dependencies with vulnerabilities.
• Experience in working with Agile including the use of Jira/Confluence.
• Be a proactive person who will not wait to be told what to do next or be unblocked by others
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Strong English skills, written and spoken.
