Job summary

HelloKindred is recruiting a Java Developer to support the re-platforming and modernisation of a DevX application. The role is hybrid (3 days in the office) with BPSS clearance and an anticipated 6-month contract end date in April 2027.

You will move an existing PCF-based app to an internal BYOC platform, focusing on back-end services and API design. Responsibilities include building APIs and microservices, collaborating with a cross-functional team, and delivering in an Agile CI/CD environment.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and building microservices-based applications.
• Experience with graph databases; Neo4j desirable.
• Strong Java experience and modernising legacy Java apps.
• Design and build REST APIs.
• Proficient in TDD/BDD and test automation.
• Experience with Agile, Jira and Confluence.

Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Java Developer to support the re-platforming and modernisation of an application within the Developer Experience (DevX) Standards and Controls function. The role will involve moving an application from a vendor platform (PCF) to an internal Bring Your Own Code (BYOC) platform, modernising the application, and resolving dependency issues.

What you will do:

• Collaborate with developers, testers, and the wider organisation to build and run products.
• Design, develop, and implement back-end features according to backlog and priority, with a small element of front-end development.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to design and launch new features.
• Proactively work with customers to resolve issues and respond to feature requests.
• Build APIs and microservices.
• Work in an Agile CI/CD environment to deliver rapid iterations at a sustained velocity.
• Participate actively in peer reviews and test other code through automated test scripting.

Qualifications

• Apply experience designing and building applications using a microservices architectural style.
• Possess experience with graph databases, with Neo4j experience desirable.
• Bring experience modernising legacy Java applications.
• Have experience designing and building REST APIs.
• Demonstrate strong technical and analytical troubleshooting skills.
• Have experience with BDD and/or TDD approaches and frameworks, including unit and integration test automation.
• Bring experience resolving dependency issues, including conflicts, upgrades, and remediation of dependencies with vulnerabilities.
• Work effectively within Agile environments, including the use of JIRA and Confluence.
• Take a proactive approach to progressing work without waiting to be told what to do next or relying on others to become unblocked.
• Apply good interpersonal skills when collaborating with technical teams, customers, and stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively in strong written and spoken English.
