The Role & Key Responsibilities

Sussex and Surrey IT Department are recruiting a full-time Devices Technician based at Sussex HQ, Lewes. This is a second line role to support the Forces endpoint devices: desktops, laptops, body-worn cameras, mobile phones, smartphones, printers, plotters and more.
The role may involve travelling to Force and multi-agency locations around both counties to support front line policing through technical problem solving and installing/supporting networked and various other endpoint devices.
The role will be offered as a permanent role.
The Devices Technician is responsible for the delivery of second line support, equipment maintenance and the delivery of change project work.
You would be key to the success of our Devices Team in supporting policing in Sussex and Surrey. You would manage a fault queue, prioritising and resolving endpoint issues. You would be involved in IT maintenance and keeping our estate current. You would handle hardware setup, configuration, and deployment. You would be involved in the roll out of new projects and developing the skills to support them.
Skills & Experience
You will need to be familiar with portable networked devices and associated operating systems, management systems, carriers and mobile services presented to, or installed on, portable devices.
A familiarity with desktop hardware and peripherals is required, including operating systems, office applications and other specialist application software installed and operated from end-user devices. Candidates require an awareness of network connectivity and cabling between desktops and peripherals and associated standards including client device management and security systems.
Examples of the technologies we use are: Windows 10/11, Intune and other industry standard mobile device manager solutions, Azure Active Directory, wifi, Bluetooth standards and peripherals, desktop PCs, laptop and tablet hardware, printers and MFPs, external storage devices, scanners, approved client software such as MS Project, MS Visio and Adobe Acrobat, Office 365 components, Edge and other browsers, anti-virus software, client IP and networking configuration, USB access control standards, Microsoft SCCM.
You will need to have a clean driving licence as you may need to drive Surrey Police fleet vehicles to work in our other locations. You will need to pass a Police Driving Permit and eyesight test.
Applicants must display the ability to work independently with a professional approach. The ability to pay attention to detail is essential. Good written and verbal communication skills and organisational skills will be key for the successful candidate. Your customer care skills must be outstanding.
