Job summary

Thornden School is seeking an enthusiastic IT Technician to join a busy secondary school team. The role supports ~1500 students and ~200 staff, in a Windows environment with M365 for Education and over 600 domain computers and laptops on a single site.

We value professionalism, independence and teamwork, with willingness to travel to local Trust schools for IT support. The position is full-time and permanent, starting October 2026, with a 37-hour week.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting Microsoft environments in an education setting.
• Knowledge of general and specific IT health and safety issues relating to work, and safeguarding awareness in a school setting.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Enthusiasm for working within a school environment and supporting the needs of the school and its community facilities.
• Willing and able to travel to local schools within the Trust for IT support.

Responsibilities

• Provide fast and friendly IT support to staff and students to contribute to effective teaching and learning.
• Support and maintain a large number of IT systems behind the scenes.
• Familiarise yourself with the systems listed in the person specification and grow your knowledge over time.

Job description

Thornden School would like to appoint an enthusiastic IT Technician to join our team at Thornden School. This small, friendly team work in our busy secondary school environment, supporting almost 1500 students and 200 staff. We run a mainly Windows Environment, using M365 Apps for Education, and we maintain over 600 domain computers and laptops across a single site.

Our school prides itself on fostering a positive, collaborative ethos where staff are well supported and students are ambitious, motivated, and proud of their achievements.

Hours:

37 hours, 52 weeks, Monday-Friday (08:00-16:00 (Fridays 08:00-15:30)

Contract:

Full time, Permanent

As an IT Technician, you will endeavour to provide a fast and friendly response to staff and students seeking assistance to ensure that the IT provided is a positive contribution towards teaching and learning. Behind the scenes, we support a large number of IT systems. Therefore, it is essential that you are familiar with most of those listed in the person specification. However, this is also an opportunity for someone who is keen to extend their skills and knowledge of systems they are not familiar with.

We are seeking professional individuals who:

• have experience supporting Microsoft environments in a education setting.
• should have a knowledge of the general and specific IT health and safety issues relating to work, as well as an awareness of safeguarding in a school setting.
• will need to be able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
• will be enthusiastic about working within a school environment and supporting the needs of the school and its community facilities.
• whilst predominately based at Thornden School, must be willing and able to travel and provide IT support to local schools within the Trust.
