Responsible to: IT Support Manager
Purpose of the Job
To support the use of ICT within the school environment through maintenance of ICT software, hardware, and related equipment, and providing support to staff and pupils to ensure administration and learning outcomes are maximised.
Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people with regard to the area's child protection procedures.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of all support requests and allocate jobs to appropriate staff.
- Ensure dedicated ICT areas are ready for use each day and in good working order at the end of each day.
- Check hardware regularly, repairing simple faults or reporting more complicated faults to a specialist technician, audio-visual service, or contractor as appropriate.
- Support teaching staff and pupils in technical aspects of ICT.
- Maintain computer files by backing up, archiving, and updating/deleting information as appropriate.
- Maintain and develop network infrastructure.
- Support adherence to ICT policies, including safeguarding, internet usage, Data Protection, and Information Management, and report concerns.
- Resolve hardware/software technical issues.
- Provide basic ICT training.
- Keep the asset register up to date with IT hardware changes.
- Maintain online services used by the school, such as Office 365, ShowMyHomeWork, Moodle, and GCSE Pod.
- Maintain software packages, ensuring licensing compliance.
- Assist with CCTV requests, log all requests, support investigations, and follow safeguarding and GDPR protocols.
- Configure and manage CCTV systems under the guidance of the IT Manager.
- Maintain systems related to CCTV, such as VMS, ensuring updates on servers and clients.
- Provision and arrange for new ID badges on the access control system.
- Ensure accurate timings of the access control system.
- Assist with access control system issues and liaise with support providers as needed.
- Program, deploy, and maintain phones on the school's IP phone system under the IT Manager’s guidance.
Other Duties
- Be flexible with working hours, including weekends, and support IT needs during inset days, school events, and exam days.
Additional responsibilities
- Provide bespoke ICT training for staff and pupils.
- Check and maintain stocks of ICT equipment.

- Be aware of personal and others' health, safety, and welfare responsibilities.
- Cooperate with the employer on health, safety, and welfare issues.
Continuing Professional Development
- Take responsibility for personal professional development in conjunction with the line manager.
- Stay updated with educational developments and legislation.
- Undertake relevant training and maintain a professional portfolio for performance management.
