Job summary

QinetiQ is hiring an IT Ops Engineer at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire. You will maintain and enhance enterprise server infrastructure across Windows and UNIX/Linux, ensuring security, resilience and availability for defence capabilities.

You will administer, monitor and support production and development environments, implement upgrades, and drive improvements within a highly regulated IT estate, working with stakeholders and security teams. DV clearance is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience administering enterprise Windows Server and/or UNIX/Linux environments.
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure incidents across server environments.
• Knowledge of VMware or other enterprise virtualization technologies.
• Experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes.
• Experience using PowerShell, shell scripting or other automation tools.
• Experience working within secure, regulated or highly governed IT environments and following IT Service Management processes.

The Role

As an IT Ops Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the critical server infrastructure and enterprise information systems that support key Defence capabilities. Working across both Windows and UNIX/Linux environments, you’ll help ensure systems remain secure, resilient and available to support operational requirements.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring and support of enterprise server environments, investigating and resolving infrastructure issues, implementing upgrades and changes, and driving continuous improvements across the IT estate. You’ll collaborate with technical stakeholders, security teams and end users to deliver high‑quality, secure services in a highly regulated environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Essential qualifications for the IT Ops Engineer:

• Active MOD DV security clearance

This role is 37 hours per week based at our RAF Waddington site on a full time basis. QinetiQ operates the RAF Waddington site in Lincolnshire in supporting advanced defence technology, flight systems engineering, and synthetic training environments.
