Job summary

QinetiQ invites applications for an IT Ops Engineer to maintain and enhance critical server infrastructure supporting defence capabilities. The role spans Windows and UNIX/Linux environments, focusing on secure, resilient enterprise systems and incident resolution.

You will administer production and development servers, perform upgrades, backups and DR activities, manage access controls, and support virtualised environments. DV clearance is required, and attendance at RAF Waddington is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience administering enterprise Windows Server and UNIX/Linux environments.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure incidents across server environments.
• Knowledge of VMware or other enterprise virtualisation technologies.
• Experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes.
• Experience using PowerShell, shell scripting or other automation tools.
• Experience working within secure, regulated or highly governed IT environments and following IT Service Management processes.

Job description

As an IT Ops Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the critical server infrastructure and enterprise information systems that support key Defence capabilities. Working across both Windows and UNIX/Linux environments, you'll help ensure systems remain secure, resilient and available to support operational requirements. Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring and support of enterprise server environments, investigating and resolving infrastructure issues, implementing upgrades and changes, and driving continuous improvements across the IT estate. You'll collaborate with technical stakeholders, security teams and end users to deliver high-quality, secure services in a highly regulated environment. Your responsibilities will include:

Essential qualifications for the IT Ops Engineer:

• Relevant qualification in Windows Server, UNIX/Linux Administration, VMware, Infrastructure Technologies or equivalent experience
• Active MOD DV security clearance

This role is 37 hours per week based at our RAF Waddington site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. QinetiQ operates the RAF Waddington site in Lincolnshire in supporting advanced defence technology, flight systems engineering, and synthetic training environments. Please note that all applicants for this role must have active DV Clearance.
