Job summary

QinetiQ Limited is seeking a Field IT Support Engineer for our Malvern site. You will ensure colleagues across the UK have the technology and support needed to perform critical work, including onsite hardware setup, installation, and issue resolution across a varied estate.

You will travel to customer and QinetiQ sites, manage your ticket queue, and work with IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve a broad range of IT issues in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in IT Support, Desktop & Infrastructure environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving across IT technologies.
• Experience supporting Windows desktops and end-user devices.
• Familiarity with ticket management systems and service delivery processes.

Responsibilities

• Providing onsite IT support and technical troubleshooting across QinetiQ locations.
• Investigating and resolving hardware, desktop and infrastructure incidents and requests.
• Building, deploying and maintaining end-user devices and equipment.
• Supporting network infrastructure through basic patching and installations.
• Managing and prioritising your own workload and ticket queue per ITIL practices.
• Collaborating with wider IT teams and escalating issues where needed.

The Role

As a Field IT Support Engineer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring QinetiQ colleagues across the UK have the technology and support they need to deliver critical work. You'll be the hands-on technical expert who resolves issues that cannot be fixed remotely, providing support across a varied estate of sites and technologies

Day-to-day, you'll provide desktop and infrastructure support, manage your own ticket queue, travel to customer and QinetiQ sites across the UK, and work closely with colleagues to troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of IT issues. No two days are the same, with a mix of onsite support, hardware installation, device builds, network patching and technical problem-solving.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing onsite IT support and technical troubleshooting across QinetiQ locations
• Investigating and resolving hardware, desktop and infrastructure-related incidents and service requests
• Building, deploying and maintaining end-user devices and associated equipment
• Supporting network infrastructure through basic patching, connectivity checks and equipment installation
• Managing and prioritising your own workload and ticket queue in line with ITIL practices
• Collaborating with wider IT teams and escalating issues where appropriate

Essential experience of the Field IT Support Engineer :

• Experience working within an IT Support, Desktop Support, Infrastructure Support or Field Service environment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across a broad range of IT technologies
• Experience supporting Windows desktops, laptops, peripherals and end-user devices
• Experience working with ticket management systems and service delivery processes
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• Willingness to travel regularly and work across multiple UK locations

Essential qualifications for the Field IT Support Engineer :

• Full UK Driving Licence
• Eligible to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance
• Relevant IT qualification, apprenticeship, degree or equivalent practical experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Malvern site with regular travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites. The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.

Please note that all applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance, as a minimum.
