Description
We are looking for an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support and develop our core IT systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate will be able to implement equipment installation plans based on the agreed specifications, maintain each component of the network, and troubleshoot issues.
The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for monitoring the infrastructure, assessing the functionality of the servers, ensuring all software is updated regularly, and providing support to projects where required. You will work with business and firmwide departments to understand their key strategies and help address them through innovative solutions.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, full-time. Flexibility for additional hours in evenings and weekends for emergency cover and systems maintenance is required.
Office Location: Derby head office with remote and onsite support at other offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in at least two technical disciplines.
- Implement new network technologies (hardware and software) into the firm’s IT infrastructure.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies based on business needs and industry best practices.
- Maintain, monitor, and support on-premises and cloud infrastructure (servers, storage, networking, virtualisation, backups).
- Support security infrastructure (firewalls, VPNs, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning).
- Perform system updates, patching, and capacity planning.
- Lead or assist with infrastructure projects (e.g., upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery testing).
- Investigate and diagnose network incidents escalated from support teams.
- Document system configurations, processes, and policies clearly.
- Resolve support incidents and service requests within SLA targets.
- Maintain communication with users and update support systems.
- Support operations outside normal hours as needed.
Compliance, Safety & Security
- Ensure compliance with software licensing and implement strategies to minimize infringement.
- Maintain ISO 27001 compliance and other security standards.
- Develop and enforce IT policies and procedures.
- Work with the Compliance Manager on GDPR compliance.
- Ensure cybersecurity measures, including Cyber Essentials certification, are maintained.
- Conduct vulnerability testing and follow-up actions.
- Manage backup solutions and disaster recovery plans.
- Maintain endpoint protection and email system security.
- Handle disposal of electronic equipment securely.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Proven experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering, preferably in professional services or legal environments.
- Strong technical skills in:
- Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, Exchange Online
- Windows Server versions, Active Directory, Group Policy
- Virtualisation and networking technologies
- Backup and disaster recovery tools
- Scripting and automation (desirable)
- ITIL support practices and change management
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
