• Migrate file servers, shares and permissions using Storage Migration Service or equivalent tools.
• Migrate internal services and other infrastructure roles.
• Work with application owners to test and migrate business applications.
• Follow company change control processes, raising change requests and provide out-of-hours cutover support where required.
• Decommission legacy servers securely, following documented processes, once migration is signed off.

Job Description

We are a well established printing business with 3 sites across Radstock (Somerset_, Livingston (Glasgow) and Windsor

With Microsoft Server 2016 shortly ending its extended support, we are seeking a couple of contractors either on a self employed or fixed term basis to work for up to 6 months alongside our internal infrastructure team, who will provide access, local knowledge and change management support to move our estate to a supported platform.

Theproject covers roughly 150 virtual servers running on VMware, hosting ActiveDirectory, file and print, web and business applications.

Main Objectives of this work will be:

• Audit the existing Windows Server 2016 instances, identifying roles, features, applications and dependancies
  
• Build replacement Windows Server 2025 servers from baseline templates and ensure configurations meet company standard build specifications
  
• Migrate file servers, shares and permissions using Storage Migration Service or equivalent tools
  
• Migrate internal services and other infrastructure roles
  
• Work with application owners to test and migrate business applications
  
• Follow company change control processes, raising chang requests and provide out-of-hours cutover support where required
  
• Decommission legacy servers securely, following documented processes, once migration is signed off
  

Requirements

• Right to work in the UK - these roles do not offer sponsorship visas and there will be a requirement that some site based work/attendance will be required either in Radstock or Livingston
  
• Strong background working withWindows Server in a business environment
  
• Hands-on experience with Windows Server 2025 including new featuers and deprecated components
  
• Experience with VMware vSphere
  
• Sound understanding of server hardening, patching anf backup/restore
  
• Work within strict change management processes
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non technical audiences
  
• Microsoft certifications in Windows Server
  
• Experience of mass server migration projects.
