Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced IP Network Specialist to join its core network operations team in East London. This role focuses on maintaining stability, performance, and security of the IP network, configuring routers and switches, and supporting data services.

You will monitor networks with advanced tools, implement BGP/OSPF, DNS, DHCP, and manage firewalls/ACLs. The ideal candidate has 6+ years in IP networking, CCNA/CCNP, and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Degree in CS/IT or related field.
  • 6+ years in IP network administration/engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF, and switching.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting with Wireshark, ping, traceroute.
  • CCNA/CCNP or equivalent desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain IP network devices (routers, switches).
  • Monitor network performance and resolve issues promptly.
  • Implement routing protocols and network services (DNS, DHCP).
  • Ensure IP network security with firewalls and ACLs.
  • Contribute to network design and capacity planning.
  • Provide Level 2/3 support for IP network incidents.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced IP Network Specialist to join their core network operations team in East London . This role is pivotal in maintaining the stability, performance, and security of our internet protocol network, which supports all data services. You will be responsible for the configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, and other IP network devices. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically proficient individual to work with advanced networking technologies in a key operational role within the telecoms industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configure, manage, and maintain IP network devices , including routers and switches from major vendors.
  • Monitor network performance using specialized tools, identify issues, and implement timely resolutions.
  • Implement and manage routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) and network services (e.g., DNS, DHCP).
  • Ensure the security of the IP network by implementing and managing firewalls and access control lists.
  • Participate in network design and capacity planning activities.
  • Provide Level 2/3 technical support for IP network-related incidents.
  • Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in IP network administration and engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and switching technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, ping, and traceroute.
  • Experience with network security concepts and implementation.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
