Job summary

NP Associates in London is seeking a Network Engineer to design, operate and optimise a high-performance network spanning on-premises data centres and cloud environments.

The role requires 4+ years in network/security engineering, CCNP or equivalent, and strong routing, firewall, and monitoring skills. Hybrid work with 3 days in the office; salary £80–90k plus bonus and benefits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of dedicated experience in Network and Security engineering support within a trading or financial environment.
• CCNP level or equivalent deep networking experience.
• Strong mastery of TCP/IP, Spanning Tree protocols (including RSTP), OSPF, and BGP.
• Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting firewall clusters, centralised firewall managers, and enterprise infrastructure (Cisco and Fortinet familiarity).
• Proficient with network monitoring and analysis tools such as Wireshark, TCPdump, Syslog, and SolarWinds.
• Excellent collaborative skills, able to explain complex network issues to stakeholders in a clear way.

Responsibilities

• Operations & Infrastructure Monitoring: daily checks across core network and security infrastructure; identify and mitigate anomalies.
• Troubleshooting & Analysis: diagnose network issues using logs, monitoring tools, and captures to isolate root causes.
• Client Onboarding: manage technical lifecycle of client access requests and connectivity onboarding.
• Provider Liaising: coordinate with telecoms and providers to provision and troubleshoot lines and connectivity.
• Change Management: support and validate planned network changes with post-change checks.
• Data Centre & Live Platform Support: monitor live platforms during trading hours; occasional data centre visits.
• Documentation & Continuous Improvement: create and maintain network diagrams, capacity plans, and procedures.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and analytical Network Engineer to join our expert, tight-knit Network team. In this role, you will help support, shape, optimise, and scale a high-performance network spanning low-latency trading infrastructure, on-premises data centres, and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Operations & Infrastructure Monitoring: Perform daily operational checks across our core network and security infrastructure, proactively identifying and mitigating anomalies.
• Troubleshooting & Analysis: Methodically diagnose network issues using logs, monitoring tools, and deep packet captures to isolate root causes.
• Client Onboarding: Manage the technical lifecycle of client access requests, connectivity onboarding, and decommissioning.
• Provider Liaising: Coordinate with telecommunications and network service providers to provision and troubleshoot leased lines, circuits, and external connectivity.
• Change Management: Support and execute planned network changes, conducting rigorous validation and post-change functionality checks.
• Data Centre & Live Platform Support: Monitor live financial platforms during trading hours, which includes occasional hands-on visits to our East and West London data centres.
• Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Create and maintain pristine network diagrams, capacity plans, and operational procedures.

What You Bring

• Financial Market Experience: 4+ years of dedicated experience in a Network and Security engineering support role, ideally within a trading or financial environment.
• Certification / Knowledge Base: CCNP level or equivalent deep networking experience.
• Core Routing & Switching: Strong mastery of TCP/IP, Spanning Tree protocols (including RSTP configuration), OSPF, and BGP.
• Security & Hardware Expertise: Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting firewall clusters, centralised firewall managers, and enterprise infrastructure (Cisco environment experience and Fortinet technologies are highly beneficial).
• Diagnostics Toolkit: Proficient with network monitoring and analysis tools such as Wireshark, TCPdump, Syslog analysis, and SolarWinds (or equivalent).
• Communication Style: Excellent collaborative skills with the ability to explain complex, technical network anomalies in a pragmatic, clear way to stakeholders.

Highly Desirable Skills (Or areas you want to learn)

• Exposure to high-performance switching platforms and data centre network architectures, specifically Arista EOS, Cisco Nexus, or Fortinet technologies.
• Understanding of Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and its application in low-latency environments.
• Knowledge and practical experience with Multicast, PIM, and Rendezvous Points (RPs).
• Familiarity with cloud-native networking architectures, specifically AWS.
• Basic scripting skills for network automation using Python or Ansible.
