Job summary

Sharp Consultancy is seeking an experienced Financial Controller near Tadcaster for an interim 3-month assignment with potential to become permanent. The role focuses on leading the operational accounting function with strong controls and accuracy.

You will manage month-end close, P&L and balance sheet, internal controls, asset registers, VAT, payroll, and liaise with auditors. Hybrid on-site 3–4 days per week in the UK. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with proven SME experience.
• Strong communication skills and advanced Excel.
• Experience in fast-paced, hands-on environments.

Responsibilities

• Month-End Close & Reporting.

• Support 13-week cash forecasting.

Job description

A fast growing SME based near Tadcaster seeks an experienced Financial Controller to start ASAP. This role will initially be on an interim basis for 3months but could lead to a permanent role for the right person.

The objective is to lead the operational accounting function, ensuring strong controls and accuracy. Key tasks include:

• Month-End Close & Reporting

• Deliver accurate P&L and Balance Sheet

• Design and implement strong internal controls

• Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation module

• Ensure accounting system aligns with operational costing and management accounts

• Coordinate VAT, payroll, and statutory filings

• Prepare year-end working papers

• Liaise with auditors and tax advisors

• Support 13-week cash forecasting

To be considered you will be a formally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a proved record in a similar role. Experience of working within a fast paced, hands on SME environment is essential, along with clear communication skills and advanced Excel ability.
