Job summary

Finatal is seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director for an initial six-month contract in the UK. The role is senior and hands-on, reporting to the CFO, and requires taking immediate ownership of the finance function within a fast-paced, PE-backed environment.

The successful candidate will lead the finance team, manage month-end and statutory reporting, oversee budgeting and cash flow, and provide insightful financial analysis to the leadership team.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA credentials.
• Experience operating at Finance Director level.
• PE-backed or private equity-backed business experience.
• Hands-on, fast-paced financial leadership capability.
• Board or investor-facing communication experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day finance function and manage the finance team.

We are working with a c.£100m turnover, PE-backed professional services business to appoint an experienced Interim Finance Director for an initial six-month contract.

This is a senior, hands-on role requiring a technically strong Finance Director who can quickly take ownership of the finance function and operate effectively within a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment.

The Role

Reporting into the CFO, responsibilities will include:

• Leading the day-to-day finance function and managing the wider finance team
• Owning month-end, management reporting and statutory reporting
• Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, controls and balance sheet
• Leading budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
• Providing high-quality financial analysis and commercial insight to the leadership team
• Managing audit, tax, compliance and external adviser relationships
• Overseeing working capital and cash management
• Supporting the Board and PE investor with timely and insightful financial information
• Driving improvements across finance processes, controls, reporting and systems
• Acting as a key financial partner to the CFO and wider senior leadership team
• Supporting wider strategic and ad hoc projects as required

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced Finance Director who can quickly get under the skin of the business and provide strong financial leadership from day one.

• Qualified accountant, ideally ACA, ACCA or CIMA
• Previous experience operating at Finance Director level
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting capability
• Previous experience within a PE-backed business
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including Board and investor-level exposure
• Immediately available to start an interim assignment

Highly desirable:

• Previous experience within a professional services or people-led business
• Experience working in a business of a similar scale, ideally around £50m to £150m turnover
• Track record of improving finance processes, controls and reporting within an investor-backed environment

This would suit a commercially minded but technically strong Interim Finance Director who is comfortable combining strategic leadership with a hands-on approach to the numbers.
