Interim Finance Transformation Director

£800–£1,000 per day | Outside IR35

Initial period of 3–6 Months | Durham | PE-Backed Services Business

An established, private equity-backed services business is seeking an experienced Interim Finance Transformation Director to lead an immediate programme of financial and operational improvement.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate will lead a finance transformation project across the accounting function, addressing immediate operational challenges, strengthening financial controls, and delivering tangible improvements in financial reporting, processes, and commercial visibility.

This delivery-focused assignment requires an experienced finance leader who can quickly assess priorities, implement practical solutions, and build a stronger foundation for longer-term transformation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead an immediate finance transformation programme, identifying and addressing critical process, reporting and control weaknesses.
• Accelerate the month-end close, improving the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of management reporting.
• Strengthen cash flow forecasting, revenue recognition and financial visibility across the business.
• Drive short-term improvements in financial processes, systems integration and operational efficiency.
• Provide immediate leadership and direction to the finance team, strengthening accountability, capability and performance.
• Improve commercial business partnering, building stronger relationships between finance and operational stakeholders.
• Establish a clear transformation roadmap, delivering early improvements while supporting longer-term change.

Candidate requirements:

• An experienced Interim Finance Director or Controller with significant finance transformation experience.
• A proven track record of delivering hands-on finance transformation and measurable improvements within relatively short timeframes.
• Previous experience within private equity-backed businesses, ideally across business services or other complex, contract-led environments.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, controls, revenue recognition, cash flow management and process improvement.
• A pragmatic, commercially minded and delivery-focused approach, with the ability to quickly establish credibility and drive change.
• Available at short notice and able to spend approximately 2–3 days per week on-site in County Durham, potentially more initially.
