We are working with a local authority seeking an experienced Chartered Surveyor to provide strategic property and asset management advice within its Commercial Assets Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded property professional with strong public sector experience to play a key role in supporting the council's approach to its commercial property portfolio, identifying opportunities to optimise assets, and providing strategic advice to senior stakeholders.
The Role
As the council's Chartered Surveyor, you will provide specialist strategic advice across the commercial property portfolio, helping the authority maximise the performance and value of its assets while ensuring they continue to support wider corporate and service objectives.
You will work closely with the Service Lead for Commercial Assets, providing professional support and helping to ensure the smooth and effective running of the wider Commercial Assets function.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic property and asset management advice across the council's commercial property portfolio.
- Reviewing and advising on asset optimisation opportunities, including opportunities to improve income, value and operational performance.
- Providing professional advice regarding potential disposals, including identifying assets where disposal may be appropriate.
- Supporting the development and implementation of asset management strategies and plans.
- Advising senior officers and stakeholders on commercial property matters, options and recommendations.
- Providing professional input into acquisitions, disposals, leases, valuations and wider asset management matters as required.
- Supporting the Service Lead with the effective and smooth running of the Commercial Assets Team.
- Identifying opportunities to improve the council's property portfolio and ensure assets continue to deliver value against corporate priorities.
- Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external advisors and other property professionals.
- Undertaking site visits across the Midlands where required.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Chartered Surveyor who can bring strong professional expertise alongside a good understanding of the public sector property environment.
You will ideally have:
- MRICS status – essential.
- Significant experience working within local government/public sector property.
- Strong commercial property and strategic asset management experience.
- Experience advising on asset optimisation and disposals.
- RICS Registered Valuer status – desirable.
- A strong understanding of commercial property principles and the challenges associated with managing a public sector property portfolio.
- The ability to provide clear, commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- The ability to work autonomously while also supporting and working closely with the Service Lead and wider team.
- A pragmatic and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to balance commercial considerations with public sector objectives.
Contract & Working Arrangements
- Day rate: £500–£550 per day
- Working arrangement: Predominantly remote
- Travel: Occasional site visits across the Midlands
- Availability: Candidates must be available to start within one month's notice
- Qualification: Chartered Surveyor / MRICS – essential
- RICS Registered Valuer: Desirable
