Job summary

Network Rail in London is seeking a telecoms engineer to deliver installation, commissioning and testing of telecoms infrastructure across the UK. You will work with Lead Engineers and project managers to configure systems and migrate services from legacy networks.

The role requires extensive telecoms experience, trackside safety knowledge, and a degree in engineering or equivalent. Hybrid working options are available, with location based in London or other major sites.

Qualifications

• Significant experience delivering telecoms equipment.

• Knowledge of trackside environment safety procedures.

Main Responsibilities

Deliver the installation, commissioning and testing of telecoms infrastructure and equipment across the UK, ensuring all activities are completed in accordance with Network Rail Group Standards and project requirements.

Perform site-based and network testing activities, accurately recording and submitting results in line with project work instructions and Authorised Telecoms Test Plans to support successful project delivery.

Configure telecoms systems and provision circuits to facilitate the seamless migration of services from legacy infrastructure, working closely with Lead Engineers, Contractors Responsible Engineers (CREs) and Project Managers.

Carry out quality assurance inspections of third-party installations, identifying and reporting any non-compliance with construction standards, manufacturer specifications or approved designs, and supporting the resolution of issues to ensure a high-quality, defect-free handover.

Undertake post-handover asset audits and condition assessments to confirm that designs have been fully implemented, assets are operating as intended and redundant equipment has been appropriately removed.

• Participate in lessons learned reviews, working groups and continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of telecoms delivery processes, engineering standards and best practice across the organisation.

• Significant experience in projects delivering telecoms equipment
• Demonstrable experience of Telecoms Installation, Testing and fault-finding techniques including use of all relevant test equipment
• Experience of standards and procedures for operating in a trackside environment and commissioning extensive telecom networks in a project environment
• Experience working with and knowledge of the safety procedures required when working with invisible laser radiating systems and high-power Radio Frequency equipment
• IWA (Individual Working Alone) or higher track safety qualification and operate in accordance with all group and company standards
• A knowledge of current CDM (Construction (Design and Management)), Health and Safety legislation and best practice
• Relevant working knowledge of technologies listed in Network Rail's Telecoms portfolio (such as PDH, SDH, TCP, IP, GSMR & Mobile Networks)
• Full UK Drivers Licence
• Experience working within the Telecoms discipline for transport projects
• Educated to degree level in Engineering or equivalent experience
