Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Consultant Town Planner to join a national team delivering major infrastructure projects across sectors. You will contribute to planning applications, provide advice, and work with EIA and environmental teams to ensure coordinated delivery.

Based in the UK with hybrid options from Basingstoke or London, you’ll join a market-leading planning practice with a strong pipeline. You will bring RTPI licensure or progress toward it, robust experience on major planning applications,

Qualifications

• Licentiate Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional town planning organisation and working towards full accreditation.
• Demonstrable experience of working on major planning applications.
• Sound knowledge of UK planning policy and legislation.
• Experience of working on Development Consent Order (DCO) and/or Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) applications.
• Understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) legislation.
• Experience identifying, evaluating, and managing planning risk.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to write clearly and concisely.
• Consultancy experience, including monitoring and managing project budgets and programmes.
• Client-focused with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative working approach, demonstrating a high level of commitment to quality.
• Experience working in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to work effectively to tight deadlines.
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning & development management for major projects.
• Prepare Planning Statements and Design & Access Statements for development applications.
• Liaise with EIA team to ensure coordinated delivery.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver outcomes.
• Assist with project management activities to support successful outcomes.
• Implement quality assurance and health & safety principles.
• Contribute to successful tenders and commercial work.
• Engage in internal and external meetings to build relationships.
