Job summary

Arup offers a 10–12 month Industrial Placement for an Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer in Cardiff or Birmingham. You will work with experienced teams on real-life mechanical elements of water and wastewater projects, gaining hands-on design exposure from day one.

You will collaborate with MEICA engineers and other disciplines, learn through regular sessions and site visits, and contribute to a sustainable future while building your professional network.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong interest in water, energy and resources sectors.
• Willingness to learn and develop in a global design consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver mechanical elements of water and wastewater treatment and pumping projects.
• Support frameworks and projects for clients such as Welsh Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent.
• Work alongside Electrical and ICA engineers to deliver MEICA solutions.
• Provide design leadership, technical assurance, equipment specification, multidisciplinary coordination and support to Design Managers and Project Managers.
• Assist with design of water and wastewater treatment works.
• Support design of pumping stations, pipework systems, reservoirs and flood defence assets.
• Carry out engineering calculations such as pump sizing, hydraulic assessments and equipment selection.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and schedules.
• Support production of design documentation through concept, outline and detailed design stages.
