Job summary

VIQU IT is seeking an Infrastructure and Security Engineer for a Birmingham-based hybrid role. You will own and advance the infrastructure and security estate, with ~80% project work and ~20% reactive support.

• Senior infrastructure experience with focus on security.
• Experience with cloud and on‑prem infrastructure.
• Knowledge of security, risk, governance and change control.
• Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to own projects with minimal direction.
• Strong communication with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage and improve cloud infrastructure alongside the Microsoft 365 technology stack.
• Patching, monitoring, backup and recovery (including testing restores).
• Provide third level IT support when required.
• Implement identity and access management, including privileged access.
• Coordinate vulnerability scanning and organise penetration tests when needed.
• Support ISO 27001 controls, risk management and audit readiness.
• Managing third‑party suppliers (e.g. AWS cloud partners).
• Deputise for the Head of IT when required.

Infrastructure and Security Engineer

Birmingham / Hybrid

Up to GBP55,000 per annum plus bonus

A growing organisation has partnered with VIQU to hire an infrastructure engineer with a security focus to join a small IT team of three.

This role will be the most hands–on technical person in the team, looking after the infrastructure and security estate. Around 80% of the work is focused on improvement and project delivery, and about 20% is reactive support.

Responsibilities of the Infrastructure and Security Engineer

• Managing and improving their cloud infrastructure alongside the Microsoft 365 technology stack.


• Patching, monitoring, backup and recovery (including testing restores/backups).


• Provide third level IT support when required.


• Implementing identity and access, including privileged access.


• Coordinating vulnerability scanning and organising penetration tests when needed.


• Supporting ISO 27001 controls, risk management and audit readiness.

Experience required for the Infrastructure Engineer

• Experience in a senior a senior infrastructure focused role, with responsibility for improving the IT and security estate.


• Real experience across cloud and on premise infrastructure.


• Understanding of security, risk and governance, and comfortable working within change control.


• Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent practical experience (e.g. Microsoft, Azure, AWS, CompTIA, Cisco or cybersecurity certifications).


• Ability to take ownership of projects without needing a lot of direction.


• Strong communication skills to non technical stakeholders.
